Illuminate Gym is pleased to offer yoga classes for all levels. Our yoga program is designed to offer both the beginner and experienced practitioner a personal yoga experience in our calm, serene, and inviting classroom setting.
Yoga means literally union. Keeping this in mind, yoga is, as a stand-alone practice an excellent way to unite your muscular body, emotional and mental bodies. Yoga can also be used as an adjunct form of exercise to any other physical activity to help maintain your body’s balance, or union of its energy systems.
All yoga is an expression of “hatha” yoga and here at Illuminate Gym we offer the following styles:
Power Yoga: This class is all-levels, but not recommended for beginners. This class will be heated to 90 degrees, and added humidity. The driving force behind Power Yoga is the breath and movement connection. Sun Salutations are typically used for the warm up and the flow of postures is a great combination of sweat and spirituality.
Gentle Hatha: All "styles" of yoga are hatha, but this class is less dynamic and a great way to rejuvenate your day! Yoga asana and pranayama (breath work) are featured in this class. (Class begins 10/18)
Yin Yoga: An hour long class of "shapes" that are held longer and are designed to work on the connective tissue, where the meridians of the body are held. The Chinese theory of how the connective tissue permeates every cell and communicates to these cells is what drives this practice. The meridians tapped in this practice create deep healing to the kidneys, liver, pancreas and lungs.
Hot 26: The class is based on the classic “Hot” practice developed by Bikram Choudhury. The class is shortened and not all poses are done twice, but this is still a great practice for a healthy back, better digestion and over-all flexibility.
At Illuminate Gym there are both full service shower facilities for men and women.
